THE ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENT LIBRARIANS (AGL) BRIEF HISTORY
SINCE INCEPTION
The idea of forming the Association of Government Librarians (AGL) came up
during a Workshop held at Moi University, Eldoret in 2005. The Government
Librarians who were present at that Workshop were challenged by the resource
persons from the University why Government Librarians had no forum to
articulate their views.
After lengthy consultations and deliberations on the same, an interim
Committee comprising Mr. Joseph P.M. Kanyeki, Wycliffe Aura Watako, Ruth
Andiva, and Pamela Mitoko (now the late) were chosen to lead the team. Later,
the Committee incorporated Ms. Helen Opiyo, Ramadhan Wesonga and Joseph
Mboji. Composition of the mentioned Committee thereafter, led to the official
Registration of the Association of government Librarians (AGL) on 22nd
November, 2006 at the Registrar of the Societies Office, Nairobi.
